The French club, Marseille, has recently signed William Saliba from Arsenal for a reported fee of £17 million ($22 million). The deal is seen as a coup for the Ligue 1 side and is expected to boost their chances of success in the upcoming season.
Saliba, who was born on March 4, 2002, is a highly rated defender who has been compared to former Arsenal star Thomas Vermaelen. He began his career with Nice before joining Arsenal in 2019. In his two years at the Emirates Stadium, he made 65 appearances for the Gunners but failed to establish himself as a regular starter.
Marseille's manager, Lucien Favre, believes that Saliba can be a key player for them this season. "We're very happy to have William here," said Favre. "He's a young talent with great potential. We believe he will help us achieve our goals."
Favre also praised the signing of Saliba,Football Full View saying: "He brings a lot of experience and quality to our squad. We know how important it is to have good defenders, especially at the back, so we're really excited about what he can bring to our team."
Saliba is expected to make his debut for Marseille in the opening match of the season against Lyon on August 12th. He is likely to start alongside the experienced Lucas Digne and Thiago Motta, both of whom have already played for the club.
For Marseille, the signing of Saliba could be a turning point in their season. With a new coach, a talented squad, and now a solid defense, they are looking forward to a successful campaign. It remains to be seen whether the young defender can live up to the expectations of fans and experts alike, but there is no doubt that he is a valuable addition to the team.
